The club was founded in 1886 when a group of workers from the Woolwich Arsenal Armament factory formed a football team called Dial Square.
Nicknamed "The Invincibles", the Arsenal squad of 2003-04 completed an unbeaten league season with 26 wins, 12 draws and 0 losses. The club reached the UEFA Champions League final in 2006, keeping a competition record of 10 successive clean sheets along the way.
